The Roots of American Preppy

For all those of you who consider Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister clothes  “preppy”, think again. There is almost nothing about the clothes offered at these stores that even distantly relates to true “prep”. And it doesn’t just come down to the actual clothes: With the loud electonic music and gigantic, half-naked models that plaster the walls, I beg the question, “Where do you summer?” True prep was born in the prepatory high schools of blue-blood New England.
